Hi Will. This isn't really shocking. It's been trending this way for decades. Only the old watch network news. I'm old, and I don't watch. I'd love to hear some solutions, because in many ways we were a healthier society and nation when more of us watched the same news at the same time, and shared at least some of the same facts.
It’s been trending but many on the Democratic side are still stuck in old ways. I have a number of ideas - but there is no ONE solution - we need to adopt new ways of communicating - including creating an always on communication ecology.
The disappearance of a shared national news audience has created an enormous opening for grassroots messengers.
We do not need Walter Cronkite-sized audiences. We need trusted people and organizations willing to notice what larger outlets overlook, explain why it matters locally, name the officials with the power to act, and correct the record when new information emerges.
Not every post will travel. The algorithms will see to that. But every accurate and useful post can build something more important than a momentary spike in engagement: trust.
Further proof that media fragmentation left the station without Democrats. We MUST get parity in the digital game. FNC is the sun, and the many other cablers, podcasts, radio shows, and Substacks are the satellites. We MUST build infrastructure.
Love,
Cassandra.
And, FWIW, the ABC newscast may as well be the 5th hour of GMA. It is almost news-free some nights. Target is women 25-54. NBC is next best, but not really any better on most nights. They're all scrambling for a formula that will stop the erosion.

We can look at this as an opportunity.
